The Hardest Day of the Year

Why is this the hardest day of the year you may ask? Daylights Savings. It’s amazing that one hour can really throw you off. Sure I can travel and either gain or lose an hour or two, but that is to be understood, welcomed even. But daylight’s savings make this Monday the hardest to get started.

I thank my lucky stars that my kids are now old enough to not make it even harder to adapt. To be honest, gaining the hour in the fall is harder with little kids and their lack of a “snooze button”. Dogs would also fit into that category too.

My morning was even more challenging because I left my (full) travel mug of coffee on the kitchen counter. I get to work and realized I am without my coffee. I even went back to the car to see if I left it there, but nope. It’s right where I left it… next to where my lunch bag was. Yup, grabbed my lunch but left the coffee. (Don’t worry, all was not lost. There is coffee, by the urn, at the office.)

On the bright side, Daylights Savings brings more light to me. It is so nice to leave work and it dark and it means the days are getting longer, more time to get things done outside or it feeling like it should be later than it is.

I would say that Daylights Savings is also one of the first indications of spring, but this year has been so odd. Barely any snow and today got up to 70 degrees! Driving home with my windows open today! It was even reported on Facebook that Mr. Softee (the ice cream truck) was heard driving around yesterday. That event alone is a sign that warmer days are coming.

I’m looking forward to warmer weather. Even though it was a VERY mild winter, I am looking forward to opening windows, cooking on the grill, and more daylight so that we move away from the feeling of living in a cave. But ask me in a few months how I feel about summer when the mosquito population begins to feast on me and I’m living indoors for most of the summer.
