Since I started back with this site, I am beginning to feel creative again. I have to admit, I’ve had a few years “slump”. Corner turned and I have some amazingly supportive people in my life that have encouraged me that it is safe to get out of this “slump”. Safe to begin to create again, which only feeds my soul more and more.
I’m really happiest when I am creating. Something I realized is true with my kids too. Years ago, when my mom was finishing up her Phy.D. she had to practice giving out all kinds of psych tests. One that really was memorable to me was an aptitude type test. My results said that I need a job that allows me to be creative or at least work around those who are creative. I have that in spades now. First at work, where we have the designers in the room with us and I talk to creatives all day long and now I am doing it on my own too.
I can not explain how complete I feel when I sit back and look at what I created. It could be a story or a painting or something I’ve knitted. It just makes me happy!
A new hobby I have picked up is paint-by-numbers. I know it sounds lame, but I love it and find it very relaxing but fairly time-consuming. I don’t know if I am good at it or not, but I find it fun and a good way to have some art around the house. I even found an old drafting easel that I’ve converted over to work for painting from the comfort of my couch.
I have several “kits” waiting for me when I get this one done too. I like it because I don’t have to worry about choosing the colors, just fill things in as I go and watch the colors take over.
